Country of Our Dream: India

In a country enriched with multitudes of differences and diversities embellished with a sense of growing indifference towards differences is the mark of today’s India. In a country where most children grow malnourished, deprived of all modern amenities of life, congenialities and care, we can’t afford to dream of anything but creating a sustainable model to equip all with their basic needs. In a country which is simultaneously envied and infamous for its diversity we can’t afford to create another party, stemming its origin with a selfish concern to assure our own petty interests. There can be several changes which if planned, executed and implemented well from an Action-Research framework may promise us significant results. So, the progressive changes which should be considered not only by the stakeholders responsible for change in our country but all concerned are:

a) Primary importance to be given to Agricultural sector as gradually with the reducing agricultural land we are exposing our ill-fed country to more capricious conditions. We can focus on meeting the basic needs of people then only can march ahead in terms of intellectual excellence, cultural enrichment and technological advancement.

b) The second change to be made is in the Educational sector at all levels starting from primary to University level, and therefore we need to create mass awareness and sensitivity towards the dire need of the state to grow intellectually, and create true benchmarks for quality education. Improving literacy is not just enough, but imparting and inculcating humane values among students is a significant imperative.

c) Creating more opportunities of Job in several sectors is also required in order to strengthen the economy of the country and societal base, for which efforts from both Governmental and Private sectors are required. This will also reduce the talent scarcity being accelerated through brain drain of the yesteryears.

d) Common amenities like electricity, water, sewerage system, roads to all villages and remote corners of the country should be provided as a priority and greater efforts needs to be channelized for creating these provisions.

e) When resources are scanty we can’t afford to be casual in approach for their use, so optimum utilization of resources, and saving resources like electricity, water, etc. can help us.

f) Reforms in healthcare, creating awareness among the mass regarding sanitation, healthy life, community health and rural health and population control needs to be addressed.

g) Creating awareness among people and reforms in the electoral system, and making the political representation a system not for lifetime occupation of some; and it should come out as a force for creating changes at grassroots level.

But why do all these excellent planning has not resulted in significant changes till date? Because in our society we have not been taught to take initiatives, we are a largely dependent society poisoned by our collectivistic complacence and assurance. This is high time when we need to wake look and around, inspect, and empower ourselves, come out of that long-driven sense of helplessness, lack of trust in our abilities and sense of inferiority. We need to work together to develop ourselves, and each one of us to contribute a stone for building a country of our dream i.e. India.

Note: This is my First Blog note, so dedicated to my motherland:INDIA. It was one of the Small Essays I had written for the Stanford Graduate School of Business Dhirubhai Ambani MBA Scholarship (I was among top 50 nominations too for only 5 scholarships).
